K9 INSTRUCTOR/INSPECTOR
BASIC SALARY: R422 662 PER ANNUM ? REF NO: SS 25/24 ? METRO POLICE TRAINING ACADEMY
Requirements:
- NQF 4 (Matric)
- Computer literacy
- A valid Code B driver's licence
- Minimum three (3) years' relevant experience working with canines in a policing/law enforcement environment. Proven ability in training canines and their handlers
- Extensive knowledge and experience of canine training and canine command training.
- Sound knowledge of canine behaviour and ability to identify and address animal behavioural problems
- Must be able to handle canines, be mentally compatible to work with animals and have no fear of canines
- Must be able to sustain operational service requirements and standards to minimise veterinary costs.
- Must be able to address first aid needs of the canines.
Key performance areas:
- Coordinate and develop specialised training and commands for the different service dogs within Safety and Security
- Conduct summative performance assessments of trained police dogs and their handlers
- Assist with development of suitable training programmes/interventions for service dogs and handlers
- Coordinate training to service dogs and handlers regarding attending scenes where serious crimes have been committed
- Provide effective and appropriate management and caring of K9 animals.
- Conduct appraisals to measure performance against agreed objectives, counselling and consulting with personnel developmental goals, career paths and short-term targets and standards within the Section
- Ensure good working relations between the City and its external Safety and Security service providers
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Manage training and skills development and the transfer of skills and knowledge.
